Emily Jarman Consulting | Last updated: October 2026
This page explains what personal information I collect when you visit my website or get in touch, what I do with it, and your rights. I've tried to keep it short and clear.
Who I am
I'm Emily Jarman, and I run Emily Jarman Consulting. I help charities and not-for-profits with strategy, change and fundraising. I'm responsible for looking after your personal information (in legal terms, the "data controller").
If you have any questions about this page, email me at emily@emilyjarmanconsulting.com or complete the "Let's talk" form here:
What I collect
If you get in touch. If you email, call, use my contact form or book a call, I'll keep what you tell me. That's usually your name, email address, phone number, organisation, job title and the reason you got in touch.
If we work together. I'll keep business contact details for you and your colleagues, plus contracts, invoices and project emails and documents.
If you visit my website. My site runs on Squarespace. It collects some information automatically, like your IP address, the device and browser you use, and which pages you look at. I use this to see how people use the site, not to identify you.
If you contact me on LinkedIn or Instagram. I'll see whatever you've chosen to share with me there. Those platforms have their own privacy policies.
What I don't collect
I don't use the supporter, donor or service-user data of the charities I work with. My work is about strategy, planning and organisational change. If I ever needed any personal data for a project, I'd agree this with you in writing first.
Please don't send me sensitive personal information (for example about someone's health) through this website.
Why I use your information
I use your information to:
reply to your messages and arrange calls
do the work you've asked me to do
send invoices, get paid and keep my tax and accounting records
keep in touch with past and current clients, where you'd reasonably expect it, or where you've asked me to
see how my website is being used and make it better
Under UK data protection law, I need a legal reason to use your information. Mine are: to carry out a contract with you (or take steps you've asked for before one), to meet legal duties such as tax records, my legitimate interest in running my business, and your consent where I ask for it (for example for some cookies).
I never sell your information, and I don't use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who I share it with
I only share your information with people who help me run my business, and only what they need. For example:
Squarespace, which hosts my website
the email, calendar, video call and file storage services I use
my accountant or bookkeeper
anyone I'm legally required to share it with
Some of these companies may store information outside the UK. If so, I make sure there are proper protections in place.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that websites save on your device. My site uses cookies it needs to work, and may use others to show me how people use the site. Where the law says I should ask first, you'll see a cookie banner and can choose. You can change your mind at any time, or block cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site might not work as well if you do.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don't lead to work: up to 2 years
Client contacts and project records: until the work ends, plus 6 years (for tax and legal reasons)
Website visit information: as long as Squarespace keeps it by default
After that, I delete it or make sure it can no longer be linked to you.
Keeping it safe
I protect your information with passwords, two-factor authentication where I can, and secure devices and accounts. Only I have access to it. No online system is ever 100% secure, but I take care with what you share with me.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
tell you what information I hold about you, and give you a copy
correct anything that's wrong
delete your information
stop or limit how I use it
give you your information in a format you can reuse
stop using it if you originally said yes and have changed your mind
Just email me and I'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy
Please tell me first so I can put things right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Links to other websites
My site links to other websites, like LinkedIn and Instagram. I'm not responsible for how they look after your information, so check their privacy policies.
